Tait & Style

Cute! This beautiful bunny badge is 100% Wool and stuffed with fleece. All the designs at Tait & Style are worked in Punch Needle Embroidery (Russian Embriodery or Bunka).

How amazing is this scarf! Just the detail and the colours...

And these ponytail holders!!!! Oh my goodness cute and they're woollen. Two of my favorite things!

I think I'm going to get punching. You too can be inspired by the amazing Tait & Style products here.

Summer knitting

I've been compelled to pick up my sticks and knit. Last winter I spied a boy with a moss stitch scarf on, in Carlisle Street. I immediately fell in love with it and decided right there and then that next year I would sport a moss stitch scarf, so here I am..... early..... I know, but with these crazy weather patterns, at least I'll be prepared.

This lovely sewing basket was given to me on the weekend by the 'Little Fella's' mum. She made it! There is a basket cleverly sewn into the base to hold it in shape and pockets inside perfect for holding thread, scrissors and all manner of accessories.

The pièce de résistance is the box of Cash's Name Tapes with the L.F's granny's name printed on. "Cash's Lingerie Ribbons. Ask your Draper for CASH'S Ribbons: the only perfect Ribbons for Shoulder Straps."
There is also a sachet of "Aigulles Francaises Bohin Diverses" sewing needles, also granny's ......plus a gorgeous sterling silver thimble. These three items were tucked safely inside their own quilted purse. What a present! Thank you Jenny, I love it.

Thomas Paul

These plates remind me of Chinese paper cuts. They're made from melamine and you can find them at Douglas and Hope. Good for the picnic basket or even mounted on the wall. Thomas Paul has a great website to visit and he also specialises in beautiful colourful cushions.
Project Idea: You could easily cut similar bird shapes out of felt and applique them onto your old cushion covers. Plain colours of felt on old patterned cushions could add extra dimenion too.

CRAFT and us.

Check it out...... Miss Woolly has been featured over at the CRAFT Blog. How exciting is that! Thank you Natalie.

and the winner is.....

Last night saw the launched of the new Miss Woolly Needlepoint Kits at our (I wanted to write 'inaugural' because I like the sound of it but I'd be fibbing) Miss Woolly Craft Night.

Miss Woolly has produced 3 initial needlepoint designs. Each kit contains the design of your choice, an easy set of instructions, cross stitch fabric, embroidery cottons, a friendly needle and a display card (so you can proudly display your completed project on the mantle piece or post it to Aunty Edna).

Julsie gets straight into it. Forgoing general chit chat to take on the challenge.

and the winner is........

Sarah took out the Miss Woolly Encouragement Award. Good going Sare!

Hooray to all and thanks for coming along. We hope you enjoyed your Miss Woolly Party Pack.

Selvedge

We may have done a post previously on the wonderful English textiles magazine Selvedge. Unfortunatly it's hard to find here in Australia and costs about $180 odd to subscribe to (tears). But... I've just found that it's stocked at Artisan Books (159 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy) Guess where I'm heading today!

Japanese Grand Prix

If you are a quilting enthusiast I highly recommend checking out the Moving Hands blog. This crafty lady lives in Japan and has just been to the 2007 Tokyo International Quilt Festival. There were daunting crowds and an hours wait to get inside the dome but once inside...my, oh my! Her 2007 Flickr photo set is so incredibly inspiring. If you're not too overwhelmed by the end of that, the 2006 entries are a real treat. A trip to Japan next January for the 2008 festival is now at the top of my wish list.

Sister Corita

'As witness to the light for john 23 and j.f.k' 1964
(Dimensions: 29.5" x 36")

Sister Mary Corita Kent, (November 20, 1918 – September 18, 1986) was an artist and an educator who worked in Los Angeles and Boston. She worked almost exclusively with silkscreen and serigraphy, helping to establishment it as a fine art medium. Her artwork, with its messages of love and peace, was particularly popular during the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s. A Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she ran the Art Department at Immaculate Heart College until 1968 when she left the Order and moved to Boston.

Find out more about the inspiring Sister Corita and her massive catalogue of work (you can purchase it online) here.

Paulina Reyes

Paulina Reyes is an amazing illustrator who designs the cute things you often see on Kate Spade handbags. Check out the great embroidery on the woven bag. It could be a great way to jazz up an old bag this summer.

English Eccentrics & Gee's Bend, Alabama

I just came across this necklace over at English Eccentrics. Their new collection is based on the papercuts of author Hans Christian Anderson. Featuring Enchanted Forest fashions and a fragrance which evokes the smell of a wood cutter's cottage. Take a look at their sketchbooks too. They are full of inspiration.

Here's to the U.S. Postal Service who have celebrated the quilting legacy of four generations of African-American women living in Gee's Bend, Alabama. "Noted for their unexpected color combinations, bold patterns, and improvised designs, the quilts of Gee's Bend are also remarkable for the humble materials with which they are made and the humbler circumstances in which they are born. Until recently, necessity limited the quilters to fabric from everyday items such as flour sacks, old dresses, and worn-out denim and flannel work clothes. Stains, mended holes and tears, faded patches, and seams all became integral parts of a quilt's design and ensured that the materials, as well as the quilts, told the story of Gee's Bend."
